Carbon Reduction Plan
Carbon Reduction Plan 2026
Within our accommodation-based services, we will promote our goal to reach net zero by 2040 and cut emissions by 80% by 2036 through implementing the following practices.
These initiatives and their targets are overseen by the Chief of Operations and Registered Manager.
Energy-saving initiatives
Room Heating
- Heat only those rooms that are currently in use, reducing unnecessary energy consumption.
- Implement smart heating systems or programmable thermostats to regulate room temperatures efficiently.
Airflow Management
- Maintain optimum airflow throughout all premises to promote natural ventilation and reduce the need for artificial heating or cooling.
- Install ventilation systems equipped with energy-efficient fans and filters to improve indoor air quality while minimising energy usage.
Insulation Excellence
- Ensure insulation is installed correctly and meets British Board of Agreement (BBA) certification standards.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance to identify and address any gaps or deficiencies in insulation, enhancing energy efficiency and thermal comfort.
By prioritising these energy-saving measures across our service provision, we not only minimise energy wastage but contribute to a more sustainable and eco-conscious environment.
Travel Initiatives
Green Travel Plan: We promote sustainable transportation to reduce carbon emissions at grassroots level by encouraging staff to walk, cycle, or use public transport to get to work. Maintaining the culture of sustainability within our organisation we embrace alternative transportation options and reduce reliance on single-occupancy vehicles.
Travel Planning Assistance: Assisting staff through the CM2000 system in planning their daily commutes and travel arrangements to select time and energy efficient routes and make informed travel decisions.
Cycle to Work Scheme: As part of our commitment to promoting cycling as a sustainable mode of transportation, this scheme provides incentives and support for staff to purchase bicycles and cycling, equipment/clothing, making it easier and more affordable for them to commute by bike.
Infrastructure Support: We operate through our social value initiatives a continuing advocacy for the development of infrastructure that supports sustainable transportation, such as bike lanes, cycle paths, and bike parking facilities, tree planting and recycling centre collections to local communities. We work with the above London authorities/ community organisations to promote the creation of pedestrian-friendly environments and improve access to public transportation.
We operate a fleet of eco-friendly company-owned cars for urgent visits. GPS (Google maps), is integrated into our ECMS CM2000, helping to plan Rosters by calculating the shortest, most efficient routes between visits. We record monthly mileage and set and monitor reduction targets.
Waste Reduction Initiatives:
Reduction of Single Use Plastics: We prioritise staff training on reducing single-use plastics, in the office, at work, in the homes and supported accommodation of SUs, and in personal settings, underscoring the importance of efforts to impact our sustainability goals, including (not only):
- Plastic medication cups: Replaced with durable, washable medication dispensers.
- Disposable plastic containers: Introducing reusable containers with secure sealing mechanisms.
- Single-use plastic wound dressings: Exploring reusable wound care systems with washable components and breathable materials.
We are actively striving to eliminate single-use plastic from our supply chains by 2026, guided by the results of a recent plastic audit. Various alternative products have been identified, including compostable tea bags, refillable pens, plastic-free or refillable cleaning products, participation in ink cartridge recycling schemes, re-utilisation of glass bottles, and the adoption of biodegradable rubbish bags.
Furthermore, we already offer recyclable or compostable alternatives to plastic items such as cutlery, straws, and water bottles, throughout our office spaces and service areas. We manage our carbon reduction in food transportation/preparation and delivery by:
ü Purchasing from local suppliers where possible.
ü Purchasing foods which use less/none /reusable packaging.
ü Recycling where available. Providing a variety of bins for different forms of waste management.
To further reduce plastic consumption, we encourage staff to bring their own lunch containers rather than opting for plastic-wrapped items. Our kitchen facilities are equipped to support this practice, complete with recycling bins for proper waste sorting.
Future Planning & Milestones
